SIGN SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS
CHECKLIST
Sammamish Municipal Code (SMC) Section 16.20.255 requires that construction drawings be of sufficient clarity to
indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of
Chapters 16.05 & 16.20 SMC and relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, as determined by the building official.
SMC Section 16.20.220 states:
“The building division shall examine or cause to be examined applications for building permits and amendments
thereto within a reasonable time after filing. If the application or the construction documents do not conform to the
requirements of pertinent laws, the building division shall reject such application in writing, stating the reasons
therefore.”
In order to better serve our customers, the following list serves to describe the minimum documentation which
must be provided in order for a Sign permit application to be accepted by the Permit Center. Incomplete plans
will be rejected and any fees paid will be forfeited. Please provide this checklist at time of submittal.
Fees: based on the valuation of the signs
Site plans (to an engineering scale*) showing:
Placement of all signs
Building façade to architectural scale - Placement of signs
-Dimensions of sign
Setbacks
Streets
Distance of all real estate signs from residential development entrance
Distance of all signs from one another
Measure of street frontage
*Note: All site plans must be to an engineering scale (i.e. 1” = 20’)
Structural plans (to an architectural scale**) showing:
Sign design (including place holder for permit number on off-site directional sign for real estate)
Construction drawings (structural plans) to include:
POST MOUNTED
Dimensions of all sign elements including posts height/ width, etc. to scale
Type of material and sizes for posts including wood type and grade. Note: Wood in contact with earth shall
be pressure treated
Depth of post embedment into soil (capable of withstanding wind loads)
Size of post hole and concrete placement around embedded post
Sign board dimensions, material and thickness
Method for attaching the sign to the post (capable of withstanding wind loads) including screw types, sizes,
and spacing. Note: metal in contact with pressure treated material must be specified to be hot dipped
galvanized coated.
WALL MOUNTED
Dimensions of all signs to scale
Type of materials for wall sign and/or individual letters including electrical components where applicable
Weight of individual letters
Method for attaching the sign to the wall (capable of withstanding withdrawal based on sign weight and
supporting framing) including screw types, sizes, and spacing. Note: metal in contact with pressure treated
material must be specified to be hot dipped galvanized coated
Show method for sealing penetrations made in existing walls during mounting and installation of sign.
**Note: All structural plans must be to an architectural scale (i.e. ¼” = 1’)
