Information
FOR DEALERS: Licensed motor vehicle dealers may use this form to transfer license plates from a purchaser’s Texas registered vehicle to a
newlypurchased vehicle (new or used vehicle) at the time of title application if allowed by law. This form may be use d for gene ral issue or
specialty license plates. General issue plates may only be transferred from a passenger car or tr uck to a passenger car or truck. License
plates must be in good condition with a readable plate num ber suitable for transfer. There is no fee to transfer license plates.
eTAG ISSUANCE: A temporary Buyer Tag must be issued at the time of retail vehicle sale and the vehicle operated with the Buyer
Tag until the title application is processed.
FILING: This transfer form may be included with the completed Application for Texas Title and/or Registration (Form 130U) submitted
to the county, but do not attach to the Form 130U. The processing co unty will use this form for information only to assist with the
registration of the purchased vehicle. For dealerships usin g webDEALER for electronic filing, do not scan or upload this form into the
webDEALER system. Contact the county tax assessorcollector’s office where the application for title is filed if you have questions
on the transfer of license plates.
NOTE: This form may not be used to transfer license plates that are lost, stolen, or mutilated. Vehicle owners must complete an
application for replacement plates and submit to their county tax assessorcollector’s office with the applicable fee.

may be transferred to cars and trucks with a gross vehicle weight up to 18,000 lbs., and all motor homes.
