DA 135 - Dental Radiology Course Fee Change
Allied Health / Dental Assisting
lmurray@cocc.edu, 541 383-7574
Students in the Dental Assisting Program take the Radiation Health and Safety National
Board examination to become certified to take x-rays. The requirements for certification
are governed by the Oregon Board of Dentistry (OBD). Very recently the OBD changed
the requirements to become certified in radiology. Previously students were required to
take two National Board examinations, 1) the written Radiation Health and Safety
examination (at $250), and 2) the clinical proficiency examination (at $250). The $500 fee
is attached to DA 135. However, the OBD dropped the proficiency examination part and
now instead allows a dentist to sign that the student is proficient in taking x-rays, and send
in $50 for the certification. Students still take the written examination. The total fee needed
for students to earn their RHS Certification is now reduced from $500 to $300. I would like
to reduce the fee charged to student to the amount it actually will cost for certification -
$300.
