FINISH WHAT YOU CAN AHEAD OF TIME
If there are tasks that you can do early, get them out of the way.
SCHEDULE EVERYTHING THAT WILL GO OUT WHILE YOU’RE GONE
Your email newsletters, social media posts, blogs, and any other content that can
be scheduled ahead of time should be.
GET YOUR VIRTUAL TEAM ORGANIZED
Make sure they know what needs to be worked on while you’re away. If they are
creating content while you're on vacation, be sure that they are scheduled ahead
of time. Have someone assigned to manage your social media accounts and
email, responding to any messages that come in.
INFORM YOUR CLIENTS
Sending out a polite message to your current clients at least a week before you
leave for vacation will help everyone be prepared. With plenty of notice, your
clients can ask any questions they may have, and you can work with them to
make sure there are no surprises.
FORWARD YOUR BUSINESS PHONE TO A VIRTUAL RECEPTION SERVICE
If you really want to disconnect, have someone else handle your phone calls and
take messages for you. You can let them know to contact you if any particular,
urgent matters pop up.
SET UP “OUT OF OFFICE” NOTIFICATIONS
Even if you have someone handling your email and social accounts, it’s basic
courtesy to have a vacation auto-responder in place. This way, new potential
clients aren’t turned off by any delay in hearing from you directly.
WORK A “CHEAT DAY” INTO YOUR VACATION SCHEDULE
Tell everyone you'll be back a day later than you actually plan to return. This
strategy will prevent possible travel delays from causing issues, and allow you to
slip back into your routine more easily.
PACK, AND RELAX
Don't pack at the last minute, or you'll likely forget something important. Create
a standard packing list that you can use before every vacation. Give yourself at
least a day to pack and do last-minute things around the house. A calm and
uncomplicated travel day will help you get into vacation mode quicker!
