OUTDOOR BURNING APPLICATION
Open burning shall be conducted under Section 307 of the International Fire Code and local amendments. Open
burning shall also be conducted as required by all TCEQ regulations. Open burning shall be prohibited when
atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fire hazardous.
To ensure that all guidelines are followed, a $150.00 deposit is required for each burn. This deposit will be refunded
upon completion of the burn if all guidelines have been followed. All permits will expire 15 days after the date of
issuance.
Before the commencement of open burning, the fire department dispatch center shall be notified at (972-347-2226),
and you must contact the Prosper Fire Station (972-347-2424).
The application can be submitted electronically via email to fire.inspections@prosperfire.com
or hand-delivered to
the Prosper Fire Marshal’s office located at 1502 E. First Street, Prosper Texas 75078 Phone # 972-347-2424. The
$150.00 check for deposit will be collected by the inspector after receiving a passing inspection. You can retrieve the
deposit at 1502 E. First Street, Prosper Texas 75078 if no incident is reported.
1. No burning if wind speed exceeds 15MPH.
2. Open burning shall not be started when the wind direction and/or other weather conditions are such that the
smoke and/or other pollutants will present a hazard to any public road or structure.
3. Begin burning no earlier than one hour after sunrise, and end the same day no later than one hour before
sunset. At the end of the day extinguish all smoldering objects.
4. Make sure that a responsible party is present while the burn is active with a copy of the burn permit at all
times. You may not leave the fire unattended for any reason.
5. Material to be burned shall consist of vegetation only and natural to the property. (Class A) The maximum
size of any burn pile shall be 160 sq. feet and no higher than 5’
(Approximately 12.5’ length x 12.5’ width x 5’
height).
6. A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire-extinguishing equipment shall be readily
available for use at open burning sites. Before approval during the inspection, the hose must be demonstrated
to reach all sides of the burn pile.
7. No burning on “OZONE ALERT” days.
