BURNING PERMIT CONDITIONS
1) Open burning permits are for burning brush that has fallen from trees because of
storms/high winds. (No land clearing, leaves, construction lumber, rubbish, or trees)
2) Have 300 feet clear from any significant structure (Include owners)
3) The burn site must be inspected before burning - $75 fee non-refundable.
4) Permits are good for a maximum two-week period, but may be renewed with
approval from the Fire Marshal at no additional cost.
5) The Duluth Fire Department may cancel or suspend burning permits due to DNR
burning restrictions or related hazardous conditions beyond the control of the permit
applicant. If the permit is cancelled or suspended due to these reasons, a refund will
be provided.
6) Permits may be revoked at any time if rules are violated, neighbor complaints, or
other hazardous conditions.
7) Applicant must call 911 (non-emergency number (218) 727-8770 and Assistant Fire
Chief (218) 730-4391 before starting the burn.
8) Be aware of power lines, telephone lines, and smoke traveling across roadways.
