REQUEST FOR ADJUDICATION BY THE GENDER RELATED TASK FORCE
The Refugee Protection Division (RPD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is
committed to adopting and advancing best practices when conducting hearings for refugee claimants
raising gender-related issues.
All RPD members are provided extensive training in conducting hearings that deal with sensitive
matters and have received additional mandatory training on questioning and decision-making related
to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) claims. All members are also
subject to the Code of Conduct for Members of the IRB
. As such, all RPD members can hear gender-
related refugee claims.
The RPD recognizes that additional training can be valuable for members hearing gender related
claims and to this end, the RPD has established a Gender Related Task Force (GRTF) whose
members have received additional specialized training. The training focuses on trauma-informed
practice, trauma-informed decision making, questioning from a cross-cultural and trauma-informed
perspective, cultural humility, trauma-informed adjudication, intersectionality and reflexivity.
Please note that requesting adjudication by the GRTF will not result in shorter processing times.
In order to make a request for a case to be considered by the RPD’s GRTF, please provide brief
reasons in the space provided below which must include an explanation on how the personal or
documentary evidence and personal profile of the claimant(s) justify a hearing with a member of the
GRTF.
This form must be sent to the RPD in PDF form to the following address:
GRTF-ESDAG@irb-
cisr.gc.ca at least 10 days prior to the hearing. The RPD members will not entertain such an
application at the outset of the hearing.
I, ____________, (counsel name) would like to request consideration for this refugee claim to be
heard by a member of the Gender Related Task Force.
