Earning DSST credit
DSST testing is limited to students who are currently enrolled at Golden Gate University or to applicants
of Golden Gate University. Generally, you may take up to two exams per test day. GGU accepts credit for
all DSST exams. They are offered in diverse disciplines and cover upper and lower-level baccalaureate
credit courses. Please make sure to take the correct exam. To receive credit, you must:
1. Take the correct test. The bulletin list GGU courses and their DSST equivalents. Questions
about which exam(s) to take should be discussed with your academic advisor.
Repeating DSST Exams:
Do not register for any DSST exa m that you have already taken within the past three months.
DSST exams repeated before three months have passed will not be scored or reported to GGU.
Your exam fees are not refundable.
Golden Gate University fully supports the three month “no-repeat” DSST rule.
IMPORTANT:
Timing is urgent. Please do not postpone taking your exam. If your last term before graduation is
approaching, please plan to take your last DSST exam at least two months prior to your expected
graduation date.
Where to Take Exams
GGU offers DSST testing for all enrolled GGU students. DSST exams are also administered at colleges
and universities nationwide. Military test takers can also find DSST exams at their local Base Education
Office or at any nearby location funded by DANTES. Each location determines the frequency and
scheduling of test administrations. Each location can also provide information on the scores required for
awarding credit and the number of credit hours awarded. Visit www.getcollegecredit.com/search to
obtain the most current list of participating DSST testing centers. Contact the testing center directly to
schedule a test.
Since GGU only administers exams for current students, GGU will not appear as a testing center on the
DSST site.

Exam fees start at $85.00 and GGU ch arges a $15.00 adm inistrative fee per exam . Internet-based exam fees
can only be paid with a Visa, MasterCard or Am erican Express credit card at the time of testing. You may pay
GGU’s administrative fee by check or credit card at The HUB, 4 business days prior to the exam dates.
You must bring a credit card to your testing appointment in order to take the exam unless you are eligible
active military.
Military
If you are an active duty, guard or reserve military member your first attempt on any DSST exam is funded
by DANTE, and both the exam fee and the site administrative fee will be waived. You must bring proper
identification on the day of testing to qualify for this program – see pdf posted on the GGU DSST Testing
page for more info.
Veterans eligible for the Post 9/11 G Bill will be reimbursed by the VA for the exam fee and the test site
administrative fee. Keep proof of payment and exam session for reimbursement. More information can be

Refunds
During testing, your credit card will not be charged until you click “Begin Test.” The $15 administration
fee is not refundable.
Rescheduling Fee
You may reschedule your DSST appointment once without penalty – further changes will incur an
additional $15 fee.

On the Day of the Examination
You should arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam appointment. This allows time for
you to sign in and for staff to verify your identification. You must present a valid form of
identification before you can test. The identification must be government issued (e.g., driver’s
license, state-issued identification card, passport, or military identification card), contain both a
current photo and your signature and have a name that exactly matches the name used to register for
the exam (including designations such as “Jr” and “III”). NOTE: If you fail to present a valid
identification, you will not be allowed to test.
The use of nonprogrammable calculators (basic functions only) is permitted for some of the exams –
see calculator info below. Scratch paper will be provided and collected after the exam.
Exam Retake Policy
If you have not achieved a satisfactory score, you may retake the same exam title after the required
wait period has passed (currently set at 30 days from your original test date). If you attempt to take
the same exam title before the required wait period, your exam will be invalid and test fees will be
forfeited.

GGU will provide basic, non-programmable, non-graphing calculators for the following exams:

To cancel or reschedule your DSST exam, please contact the GGU Testing Services as soon
as possible.
What to Bring on Exam Day
Please bring a valid photo ID with you, such as a California Driver License, GGU Student ID
card or a passport.
NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED INTO THE EXAM ROOM WITHOUT A PHOTO ID.
ARRIVAL TIME on the day of t he exam is 10 m inutes before the exam session
begins. If you arrive af ter the ex am session begins that will be cons idered a non -
appearance and your exam fee will not be refunded.
DO NOT BRING: PDAs of any kind, books, papers, notes, beepers, cell phones, alarm
watches or food. U sing any of these items during the exam will lead to dismissal from the
exam. Pocket items – keys, wallets, etc. – must remain in your pocket during testing.
NO BEVERAGES will be allowed into the computer room/area. A calculator can be
provided if your exam requires you to use one and you do not have one. Please be
prepared to leave bulky or non-test personal items in the front of the test room. Only
students who are taking the test are allowed in the testing areas.

What to Expect on Exam Day
You will have approximately 20 minutes to complete an online registration process. This
includes taking a paper and pencil exam, you should bring several No. 2 (soft lead) sharpened pencils with
a good erasers, and a black pen if you will be writing an essay.
Accommodations for Test Takers with Disabilities
Prometric provides reasonable testing accommodations as set forth in the provisions of the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to allow test takers with documented disabilities
recognized under ADA an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. Candidates
with disabilities who require accommodations are advised to make arrangements 30 days in
advance of the test date. Please submit professional documentation of the disability to the test
sire administrator. The test site administrator will forward your documentation to Prometric
for approval and to help determine the necessary testing arrangements. There is no additional
charge for these accommodations.
Reporting Scores
For official scores to be sent to Golden Gate University, you must provide GGU’s 4-digit DSST
code at the time of your examination. Due to privacy and security requirements, score will not be
reported over the phone under any circumstance. Check with GGU Records and Registration 4-6
weeks after testing to verify that your scores have been received. If for some reason GGU has not
received them, please contact Prometric at 1-877-471-9860 within 90 days of your test date and
they will resend the score free of charge. Golden Gate University’s 4-digit DSST code is 9160.
