Academic Improvement Plan (rev. 03.12.2020)
This Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) documents what you, as a student, will do to improve academically so you can:
1.
Continue to attend Clarion University. Students who do not meet the GPA and course schedule outcomes listed on
this page of the plan will be suspended from Clarion University.
2. Remain eligible for Federal and State Financial Aid, if you have a record of successfully completing at least 67%
of all previously attempted credits and have not earned more than 150% of the credits required for your degree
program.
[In accordance with Clarion University academic policy, students with GPAs below 2.0 are required to complete an AIP. In order to
remain eligible for Federal Financial Aid, students must complete the following items: AIP, Federal Academic Progress Appeal
Rights and Responsibilities Form, and letter of appeal.]
SECTION A: To be completed by student and advisor or department chair
Student Name __________________________________________________________________________________
ID number _____________________________________________________________________________________
Major _________________________________________________________________________________________
Anticipated graduation year ________________________________________________________________________
Advisor ________________________________________________________________________________________
In carrying out my Academic Improvement Plan, as a student, I understand that:
• Completion of this AIP does not guarantee financial aid eligibility. Unless I am a new or first time freshman without
transfer cr
edits or credits from dual enrollment, (see below) I must meet with Student Financial Services (“SFS”)
(Clarion Campus--Becht Hall; Venango Campus--
217 Frame Hall). I may have to complete the Federal Academic
Progress Appeal Rights and Responsibilities Form AND the letter of appeal available from
http://www.clarion.edu/tuition-and-financial-aid/financial-aid/sap-appeal-form-5-29-19.pdf. I
understand that
there is no
guarantee that a financial aid appeal will be approved.
If you are a new or first time freshman, without transfer credits or dual enrollment credits: You will not need to
meet with SFS after the fall term if Academic Affairs places you on an AIP. You have this semester to regain
satisfactory academic progress (“SAP”) in order to receive financial aid for next fall or even summer classes. If you
do not meet progress when SFS checks progress at the end of your spring term, you will receive notification and
information on how to appeal the decision.
• If
I h
ave fewer than 30 credits, I will see my Student Success Coach ____________________ to develop an
individualized plan (“My Action Plan” or “MAP”) for the semester.
• If I have 30 or more credits, I will meet with the Director of Student Success to develop an individualized plan (“My
Action Plan” or “MAP”) for the semester.
• I will take no more than 15 credits per semester.
• I cannot fail a class. I must successfully complete each course with a grade of D or higher, agreed to in this plan, and
I will set target grades for each of my courses that will result in 2.0 or higher semester GPA, or I may lose eligibility
for federal financial aid.
• I will not withdraw after drop/add from courses agreed to in this plan, or I will lose eligibility for federal financial aid.
• I will seek approval from my advisor or department chair AND the Office of Student Financial Services prior to
making any course changes.
