Phil Shanline Scholarship

Scholarship applications should be typed. Application data will be accepted if hand written, buessay responses MUST be
typed. Essays must be single spaced with 12 pt Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial font.
The application form takes about 10 minutes to complete. Approximate time to complete the essay is about 2½ hours,
including typing.

General Information
This scholarship is open to any student who will be attending any post-secondary institution in pursuit of a Certificate, Diploma
or Degree. Applicants must be residents of, or attending a learning institution within, the states of Nebraska, Iowa,
Kansas or South Dakota. The Scholarship application period will be from January 1st of the calendar year through March
15th.
A total of three scholarships will be awarded. Each of the three awarded $2500 scholarships will be awarded based on
application responses. Other factors such as financial need may also be used in the selection process.
Scholarships will be awarded for the Academic year beginning in August of the current year. The scholarship checks will be
mailed to institutions September 1 of the current acedemic year. Depending on the constraints of an individual institution, an
earlier mailing may be arranged.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to furnish the correct name and address of the educational institution. Failure to do so
may result in disqualification during the selection process or the loss of the awarded scholarship.
The funds may be utilized for any expense allowed by the institution to which the checks are sent; including tuition, fees,
housing, books and other supplies identified as necessary for the completion of the recipient's chosen program of study.
The chosen recipients will be notified no later than April 6 of the award year. The ASQ Section 1302 Phil Shanline Scholarshi
Award Ceremony will be held prior to the start of the acedemic year for which the scholarship is being awarded. Recipients
should expect to attend the award ceremony. Recipients will be provided the ceremony details as early as possible.
Applicants and recipients from previous years are invited to reapply.
Submitted Applications and Essays become the property of ASQ-section 1302. Excerpts may be used in newsletters or on th
section webpage, and to promote the Section, organization and/or the scholarship.
Application Rules
Applicants must possess an overall grade point average of at least 2.0 for at least two periods at the last secondary or post
secondary institution which they attended. Official transcripts required. Transcripts must be issued by the last secondary or
post secondary institution which the applicant attended and be received or postmarked no later than March 15th.
E-mailed applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. of March 15th of the application year, hardcopy applications must be
postmarked by same. Resolution quality is the responsibility of the sender. Illegible hardcopies and electronic files that cannot
be opened will not be accepted. All electronic applicants, including Mac users are encouraged to submit their application as a
PDF. The scholarship committee uses Microsoft Office.
Transcripts that are sent seperately from the application and essay must be received or postmarked by the same due date as
the a
lication.
