POLAR BEAR
AWARD
The Polar Bear Award is a council-level award to honor those Scouts and Scouters
who extend their camping experience through the winter months.
The Polar Bear Award can be earned by any Buckeye Council registered Boy Scout,
Venture Scout, Explorer or adult leader. Webelos Scouts camping with a Boy Scout
Troop, except during scheduled camporees, are also eligible for this award.
The Polar Bear Badge is not an honorary badge. In order to earn this award, the
candidate must have tent camped in the outdoors for four (4) days and nights (96
hours) during the period extending from the first full weekend in November through
the last full weekend in March. These four nights need not be consecutive but must
occur within the state of Ohio and must be under the two-deep leadership of registered
adult leaders.
Tents should be carried, by the respective candidate, to his or her campsite and meals
should
be
prepared in the outdoors; however, these qualifiers are left to the discretion
of the unit leaders and based on the safety and welfare of the candidates.
The 1st year badge is worn just beneath the right pocket of the official shirt. It is
centered
with
the top of the badge touching the bottom of the pocket. The subsequent
years' bar awards
are
worn as shown:
(4) Red
(2) Orange

The following registered Scouts and
Scouters
have completed the above-captioned
requirements and have earned, and are entitled to wear, the Polar Bear Award Badge.
