Why Should I Become A Student Leader?
Participation is always needed to make a difference on campus. If you want change to happen, then it
begins with all of us volunteering our time and effort to make positive changes for all students. Below
are benefits you will receive while serving on Student Government (SG).
1. SG will build leadership and communication skills that can be transferred to employment & community.
2. Learn about the importance of planning, organizing and budgeting that can be used in future projects.
3. Exposer to the campus community and understand the Kauai CC structure on campus.
4. Work and collaborate with various community and campus committees.
5. Opportunity to travel and attend state or national conferences.
6. Receive a leadership stipend upon completion of duties each semester.
7. Meet other students around the state and the nation.
CANDIDATE NOTES
1. Students wishing to pursue an elected position must be currently enrolled and in good standing.
2. Having good standing is defined as maintaining a Kauai CC grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and not on
academic or judicial probation.
3. Job duties for administrative and senate positions are listed in Article IV and V of the ASUH-KCC Student
Government Constitution and By-Laws.
4. Candidate information will be shared on public boards and on the ASUH-KCC Website.
5. Officers and senators are required to attend weekly student government meetings and during Student
Government sponsored events and activities.
6. Maintain regular Student Government office hours each semester (2 hours per week).
7. Work in the Student Life Box Office as requested (2 hours per week).
8. Attend college-wide and student government meetings for the committees to which they are appointed.
CAMPAIGN RULES
1. In addition to having a complete application, including a digital photo, all candidates must have a 2.0 grade
point average and be in good standing with Kauai CC (per the ASUH-KCC Constitution and By-Laws).
2. Once a candidate receives confirmation from the Election Commissioner, campaigning may begin.
3. All campaign efforts must be in accordance with the KCC Policy on Posting Notices and Solicitation found in
the Student Handbook.
4. Personal campaigning during the election period between Mon. Sep 28 to Thu. Oct 1 is NOT ALLOWED
within 30 feet of any public campus computer.
5. Having a Facebook page or other online media forms of advertising is permissible.
6. Aggressive campaigning, such as yelling or forcing students to vote is not permissible.
7. Passive advertising such as posting up signs, banners or flyers are allowed.
8. Campaign violations will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Elections Commissioner and Student Life
Coordinator. If considered serious enough, violations could be referred judicially through the Vice
Chancellor of Student Affairs.
9. Other campaign rules may be created and applied as needed.
