Graduate Teaching Assistant Award of
Excellence
Call for Nominations
Members of the University Community are invited to nominate a Graduate Student
within the College of Biological Science for this award.
Eligibility
The nominee must be enrolled at the University of Guelph in a graduate program in the College of
Biological Science and have held a Teaching Assistant position during the current academic year
for which their contributions are being recognized.
Criteria
The nominee will be recognized for their exemplary teaching skills and abilities, and commitment to
undergraduate learning, characterized in at least two of the following ways:
1) their ability to encourage student engagement and participation;
2) their enthusiasm and subject-area expertise;
3) their dedication, preparation, organization and time-management skills;
4) their ability to innovate, and to motivate, recognize and reward student excellence;
5) their ability to communicate and translate disciplinary knowledge;
6) their ability to be accessible and approachable to students
7) their ability to work collaboratively in a teaching team
Nomination
A nomination package will be compiled by at least two nominators, one of which is preferably an
undergraduate student who has been enrolled in a course for which the candidate was a TA. The
nomination packages must include:
1) nomination form (provided below)
2) a one page letter of support from the nominators outlining the major contributions and
accomplishments of the nominee;
3) a one page summary of the nominee’s teaching responsibilities, duties and contributions as a
TA;
4) no more than four letters of support, if appropriate, from undergraduate students, colleagues,
supervisors and/or departmental faculty members
