1. Discretionary Grade Adjustments (Push/Pull Points)
“Push Points” may be given for extraordinary class participation, or a special contribution made to the class by an
individual. Points may be given in 0.5 increments and are limited to one-half step. For example, a “B-” would become a
“B”. “Pull Points” may be deducted for excessive absenteeism or a severe lack of class participation/preparedness and
are also given in increments of 0.5 points and are limited to one full step. For example, a “B-” would become a “C” or
“C-” for both poor attendance and preparedness. Note: Students must have been notified in your course syllabus if
they will be subject to discretionary grade adjustments.
If you wish to award Push or Pull Points, enter the information in the space provided and submit the form to the
Registrar's Office. The grading coordinator will make the necessary grade adjustments and will recalculate your grade
distribution percentages and verify they adhere to any applicable curve. If the grade distribution does not meet the
curve after the adjustments have been applied, you will be required to make additional adjustments or submit a curve
waiver petition. The grading coordinator will contact you within two business days if your adjusted grades do not meet
the curve for you to take further action. Please be sure your faculty assistant knows how to reach you in the event we
need to contact you.
2. Witkin Award
The Witkin Award (Bernard E. Witkin Award for Academic Excellence) is applicable to letter-graded JD courses with
an enrollment of ten or more JD students. If you are not sure if the section you taught qualifies, contact the grading
coordinator. Generally the award goes to the highest score in the course. Please enter the information in the space
provided and submit the form to the Registrar's Office.
3. CALI Award
The CALI (Computer Assisted Legal Instruction) Award is applicable to all JD courses. If you are not sure if the
section you taught qualifies, contact the grading coordinator. Generally the award goes to the second highest score in
the course, or to the highest if the course does not qualify for the Witkin Award. It may also be given for outstanding
classroom performance regardless of score. The award can be given to a maximum number of two students if you feel
there are two students equally deserving of the award. Please enter the information in the space provided and submit
the form to the Registrar's Office.
4. Best Essay Answers
GGU Law School requires instructors to designate the best student answer for each final exam essay question. The
essay question and best answer are posted on the Law Library's Web site. If it is preferable, instructors may write a
sample answer instead of designating a best student essay answer. Please enter the information in the space provided
and submit the form to the Registrar's Office.
