Teacher Education Scholarship Application
Overview:
The African American Teacher Scholarship Fund Inc. objectives are to increase the number of African American teachers
by providing:
• resources to promote, attract, and retain teachers;
• scholarship funds to support teacher education;
• scholarship funds to support student teaching;
• grants to support innovative classroom ideas; resources to support teacher retention; and
• professional development.
AATSF recognizes the financial challenges associated with the preparation to become a professional educator. AATSF
would like to reduce the debt associated with the preparation to become a teacher in an elementary, middle or high
school.
This $2,000.00 scholarship will support aspiring African American teachers. To qualify, one must a college junior or senior
pursuing education and teaching certification.
Applications are due annually by February 1 for fall term and June 1 for spring term.

The African American Teacher Scholarship Fund is non-for-profit organizations that provides financial incentives,
resources, and recognition to attract, support, and retain African American teachers in high-need schools.
Mission
To collaborate with stakeholders to improve teaching and learning for students of color by increasing the number of
African Americans who enter, stay, and enhance education for the students that they serve.
Deadline:
• Annually February 1 for fall term
• Annually June 1 for spring term
Applicant Eligibility:
• Persons of African American decent
• Majoring in Education at an accredited college/university
• Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student
• Officially accepted into a professional teaching program.
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0
Award:
• Award recipients will be notified of decision by the August for February submissions and December for spring
submissions.
• A 2,000.00 award payable to the award recipient.
• Recipient can reapply and receive award up to two times within two years.
