*A site plan and or drawing of tank placement must be attached to this document. The plan / drawing
must include the following: main road, driveway, house location and adjacent lot line with approximate
dimensions to all.
** All underground installations must be inspected by an Inspectional Services representative prior to back-
filling of excavation.
My signature indicates that residential installations have met all requirements as stated in the NFPA
Standard 58 LP Gas Code, latest edition adopted by the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office and all applicable
state and local laws, ordinances, regulations and standards. My signature also indicates that commercial
and industrial installations have met all the above mentioned codes in addition to NFPA 30 Flammable and
Combustible Liquid Code and NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code.

TANK INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Oil Tanks
1. Maximum inside capacity shall not exceed 660 gallons.
2. Tank shall be at least 5 feet away from open flames or fuel burning appliances.
3. Tank shall be located at least 3 feet away from any electrical panels or shutoff
valves.
4. Fill pipe shall be at least 1¼ inch.
5. Fill and vent pipes shall terminate at least 2 feet from building openings.
Propane Tanks Aboveground
1. Tank shall be installed to the requirements of the currently adopted edition of
NFPA-58 and by qualified installers.
2. 125-500 gallon tanks shall be at least 10 feet away from structures and property
lines.
3. 501-2000 gallon tanks shall be at least 25 feet away from structures and property
lines.
4. Tanks shall be 10 feet from any source of ignition.
5. Tanks shall be 5 feet from building openings.
Propane Tanks Underground
1. Tank shall be installed to the requirements of the currently adopted edition of
NFPA-58 and by qualified installers.
2. Cathodic protection for tank.
3. All underground installations must be inspected by Inspectional Services prior to
back-filling of excavation.
4. Rock and abrasive free back fill on site.
5. 2000 gallon or less shall be 10 feet from buildings, openings, property lines
and/or ignition sources.
6. Gas line trench shall be at least 12 inches deep.
