The purpose of this form is to suspend the subject matter competency admissions requirement for candidates who are unable
to complete the CSET exam due to COVID.
This form can only be used by applicants seeking admission to an SOE program leading to one of the following teacher or
services credentials:
• Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Special Education Teacher
This form cannot be used in lieu of a subject matter competency or graduate admissions exam for the purposes of submitting
an “exceptional admit” petition and/or a graduate portfolio of evidence.
I am unable to complete the subject matter competency requirement due to COVID. I will make every effort to
complete the subject matter competency requirement prior to clinical practice. I understand that If COVID
continues to restrict clinical placement opportunities for student teachers, Brandman University may need to
prioritize candidates who have fulfilled Subject Matter Competence. Candidates do not need Subject Matter
Competence to begin clinical practice. However, I understand that I will not qualify for a credential from the
Commission on Teacher Credentialing upon completion of my program unless the subject matter competency
requirement is completed.
I understand that Summer II 2021 is the last available start term and a complete application and all required
supported documentation must be submitted by 06/14/2021.
