Practical Nursing (Diploma) Planning Checklist
STEPS TO ADMISSION
Complete prior to applying for admission to the PN Program
General Requirements
Submit a VGCC admission application (deadline January 31, 2021)
Submit official transcripts (high school and/or college)
Apply to Financial Aid
Attend New Student Orientation (Required for all new students and students who have not
attended in last 3 years or more)
Attend a Nursing Information Session (recommended) Dates to be Announced
Meet Course Placement Requirements
Students must demonstrate readiness for college-level English and Math by one of the following:
Provide proof of an unweighted US high school GPA of 2.8 or higher within the last 10 years
Transfer college credit of ENG-111 and MAT-143 or higher
Provide proof of an Associate’s degree or higher
Provide proof of satisfactory test scores from an approved test within the last 10 years
Demonstrate mastery on RISE English and Math on Tiers 1 and 2
Successfully complete ENG-002 and MAT-003 with a grade of P2 or other developmental English
and Math sequences within the last 10 years.
CNA Requirements
Current listing on the NC CNA I Registry & CNA Work Experience Verification form documenting
640 hours of CNA work
OR
Current listing on the NC CNA I Registry & Letter of Recommendation from NA I instructor if
completed the NA I course within the last 12 months of the program application deadline
OR
Submit a CNA Waiver Request Form
Other Requirements
Complete ATI TEAS Test with a Total Score of 58.7% or higher within the last 5 years of the
program application deadline (Only 2 attempts are permitted per application year; April 1 –
March 31)
Meet a program-specific GPA of 2.5 or higher
