An opportunity to share teaching strategies
The Faculty Classroom Exchange program provides an opportunity for faculty to observe and experience the instructional
techniques of another faculty member in a classroom setting.

Associate faculty may earn a minimum of five and up to ten hours of Flex credit per exchange.
Full-time faculty receive a minimum of five and up to ten hours Flex credit per exchange with no maximum
number of classroom exchange groups per year (limit of 33 hours/50% of Flex obligation per Flex Committee).
Pro Dev preapproval required. $100 stipends for associate faculty are available for the 2019-20 academic year.
Requests for stipends will be considered at the beginning of the semester.
How does it work?
The classroom exchange is conducted in three parts: a one-hour pre-classroom visit meeting, the two
classroom visits, and a two-hour post-classroom visit meeting.
Classroom visits may include visits to online courses.
Exchanges are limited to one exchange between the same two instructors.
Participants may be in the same discipline or dramatically different discipline.
Exchanges may occur among more than two faculty members.
Exchanges must be documented and reported to Professional Development using the Faculty Classroom
Exchange Reporting Form (page 2)
Important: the information collected during the classroom visits is confidential and will not be used in an
evaluation of the instructors involved.
If you are an applicant wishing to receive the stipend, please call or email Professional Development to obtain
confirmation that the Classroom Exchange Program fund cap has not yet been reached. Once the cap is reached, no
cash stipends will be available.

How to form a classroom exchange:
Step OneThe first step establishes the exchange and informs the Professional Development Office of its existence.
Step Two The “Exchange Reporting Form keeps an ongoing record of the meeting dates, time spent, and the
content and value of discussions. Each classroom exchange member must complete and sign this form.
