EMPLOYEE BENEFITS COORDINATOR
Salary: $76,397.00 per year. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package. This summary provides
a brief overview of the benefits available to regular full-time municipal employees; depending on the employee
group some of these benefits may include: retirement pension administered by CMERS (Connecticut Municipal
Employees Retirement System), health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription), life, disability, paid
leave, paid holidays, 457(a) deferred compensation plan (employee paid), and other voluntary employee paid
benefits.

The City of Bridgeport is located in Fairfield County at the mouth of the Pequonnock River on Long Island
Sound. It is boarded by the towns of Trumbull to the north, Fairfield to the west, and Stratford to the east; with
an approximate population of 147,000, 50,367 households, and a population density of 9,226 residents per
square mile. The City has a Mayor-City Council form of government. The City’s Mayor is the chief executive
officer of the City and serves four-year term(s). The City Council, which acts as the City’s legislative body,
consists of twenty (20) members elected for two-year terms.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provide technical guidance, coordination and training in all functions of the Benefits Administration
Department, including health benefits, life insurance. Responsible for applicable budget expense reports;
generate claim expense reports and assist with fiscal year forecasts and budget preparation. Perform Benefits
Coordinator duties for designated active and retiree employee group(s).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Department manager as appropriate.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision of Benefits Coordinators/Workers Compensation staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions or duties described below are the primary functions and duties of the position. There

work or logically assigned to the position.
1. Respond to technical questions and problems presented by Benefits Coordinator and Benefits Manager.
2. Responsible for maintaining accurate benefits enrollment records for all active employees and their
dependents, including the removal of dependents as they age out of program eligibility.
3. Perform duties of Benefits Coordinator for designated active and retiree employee group(s).
4. Assist employees with benefit inquiries; interact with vendors, labor relations representatives,
department heads, supervisors, employees and outside parties in providing accurate and timely
information in response to questions and complaints.
