Students currently enrolled in high school and seeking classes at Montgomery College (MC) may apply for a need-based grant
under the provisions below:
Students applying for a grant must meet the following conditions:
1. Eligibility for a High School Grant requires documented proof of a 2016 federal adjusted gross income of $91,000 or
less. Grant approval will depend on the availability of funds. Montgomery College will notify students by letter or e-
mail of their grant application status.
2. Students must be properly admitted to Montgomery College and accepted to take courses through MC’s Dual Enrollment
program prior to the posted grant submission deadline. Grants will not be approved and funds will not be applied until
after student is registered for a course.
3. First time applicants must submit a copy of the custodial parents’ 2016 complete federal income tax return. The first
two pages of the tax return, listing the student as a dependent and signed by the parent, is required. This must
accompany the HS grant application. (If a student does not live with both parents, the custodial parent is the one the
student lived with most during the past 12 months.)
4. Students apply for a grant once each semester and must reapply as long as they are still enrolled in high school. For
example: a student must submit an application for fall 2017, spring 2018, and summer 2018 separately.
a. Students who previously applied for a high school grant for fall 2017 or spring 2018 and submitted all
required documents to MC do not need to resubmit their 2016 federal tax forms again but must submit an
updated grant application for summer 2018 in order to be considered for that semester.
GRANT AWARD DETAILS:
NON-MCPS STUDENTS: The maximum that a High School Grant covers for Non-MCPS students is the cost of
in-county tuition, fees and required textbooks for the course(s), depending on financial need and availability of funds.
TEXTBOOKS: The High Scho
ol grant covers the cost of required textbooks for the course(s) listed on the student’s
class schedule. Textbook pickup instructions will be mailed with the grant acceptance letter. Textbooks must be
obtained by the posted deadline regardless of the course start date. The student is responsible for purchasing any
items other than the required textbooks associated with the grant, including optional/suggested textbooks and
school/computer/art/music supplies etc. Student may be financially responsible for a non-returned textbook if they
withdraw from a course.

SUMMER 2018 HIGH SCHOOL GRANT APPLICATION
MCPS STUDENTS: The maximum that a High School Grant covers for MCPS students is the cost of Montgomery
College tuition, fees, and required textbooks for the course(s), depend
ing on financial need and availability of funds.
• Under the Maryland College and Career Readiness and College Completion Act of 2013 (CCRCCA) a public
institution may
not charge tuition to Maryland public high school students seeking college courses during the fall,
winter and spring semesters only. SUMMER COLLEGE COURSES ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS ACT.
Eligibility for a grant requires documented proof of a 2016 federal adjusted gross income of $91,000 or less.
Grant awards are based on financial need and availability of funds.
Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) Students who are enrolled in college courses may be eligible for funds that pay the cost of
Montgomery College fees, and required textbooks for each course(s) per semester, depending on financial need and available funds. Grant does
NOT cover MCPS fees.
Montgomery County Home School Residents and non-MCPS Maryland State Residents attending a secondary school in Maryland who are
enrolled in college courses may be eligible for funds that pay the cost of Montgomery College tuition, fees, and required books for each course per
semester, depending on available funds. Student mu
st be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applicant and their parents must be permanent
residents of Maryland attending a secondary school in Maryland or a registered Montgomery County home schooled student.
