Secretary of State Police must inspect all new homemade trailers.
Any trailer weighing 5,001 pounds or more must also be
inspected by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Please
call 217-785-1181 for the nearest IDOT authorized inspection
station. You may obtain a 7-Day Permit for transportation
purposes at a local Secretary of State facility.

Trailer:
• Application for Vehicle Transaction(s) (VSD 190)
• Homemade Trailer Statement of Construction (VSD 797)
• Color photographs of the side, front and rear trailer showing the tongue, safety chains,
license plate bracket and taillights
• Applicable fee payable to Secretary of State
• IDOT Inspection if weighing more than 5,001 pounds.
