Secretary of State Police must inspect all new homemade trailers.
Any trailer weighing 5,001 pounds or more must also be
inspected by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Please
call 217-785-1181 for the nearest IDOT authorized inspection
station. You may obtain a 7-Day Permit for transportation
purposes at a local Secretary of State facility.

Homemade Trailer Statement of Construction (VSD 797)
Color photographs of the side, front and rear trailer showing the tongue, safety chains,
license plate bracket and taillights
Applicable fee payable to Secretary of State
IDOT Inspection if weighing more than 5,001 pounds.
