Quick Wins, Confidence, & Habit Building
Today’s Date
Name
Dear guitar friend,
When you come back to guitar after some time away it can feel like you lost momentum and
skills that you once had. And you might worry that you’ll put in all that work again only to quit
playing and lose all your momentum…again.
But rest assured, you’re about to make rapid progress because you’re already
familiar with some of the basics.
But right now you might be asking yourself things like:!
What if I don’t have what it takes to get any further than where I got last time? Or what if I
go all in again and fail to make guitar playing a habit. Will the guitar go back in the closet
forever this time?!
Over the next 90 days, this guitar routine will help you focus on the quick wins, confidence,
and habit building needed to get you addicted to learning guitar again.!Here’s how I know
this will work for you…
I started teaching guitar in 2005 and I’ve now taught over 31,056 people this new method.
Tony’s Acoustic Challenge has over 1246 reviews with a 4.9-star average rating. Our
member retention is an industry-leading 97.3%. Why do they stay year after year?!Because
they see results and they have fun!— consistent, noticeable progress mixed with massive
amounts of fun, month after month.
With the flood of comments that come with over 78 million YouTube views, I’ve seen the
most common hang-ups and limitations guitar players have at each stage. I’ve interviewed
industry icons like Tommy Emmanuel, Taylor CEO Bob Taylor, Gibson master luthier Ren
Ferguson, Martin CEO Chris Martin, and even Paul Reed Smith. As they talked about their
fans and customers, they gave me a unique glimpse into how impactful a lifelong guitar
passion can be for people if they get addicted to a fun and fulfilling guitar playing routine.
But the biggest reason I know this method will work is because I understand you and I’ll
hold you accountable to living up to your greatest potential with guitar. I’ve been in your
shoes and I’ve developed and tested the TAC Guitar Method with real people like you who
are getting real results.!
In short,!I care and I’m committed to your success.!It would be my greatest pleasure to
be your guide to a lifelong guitar passion.

Fill in the blanks below to outline your goal decision. Don’t stress or try to get it perfect. The goal of
today’s exercise isn’t to come up with the perfect goal. Instead, it’s an opportunity for you to work
through all of the pieces that go into an effective 90-day guitar routine. You can come back to this
document to fine tune any of the three parts of your plan.
Choose Your Next 90-Day Goal
1
GOAL GUIDELINES
1. Make it specific so it's easy to answer “yes, I’ve completed this” or “no, I haven’t completed
this goal.”
2. Make sure it’s doable within the next 90 days. Shoot slightly higher than what you think is
possible, but not so high that it’s unrealistic.
DREAM GUITAR SCENE GUIDELINES
1. Write your first draft of the scene today. Refine it over time with added details.
2. Before each practice session, close your eyes and play the scene in your mind "
like a movie.
MILESTONE GUIDELINES
1. Break your next 90-day goal into two or three essential milestones that you can achieve
and celebrate on the journey to your goal over the next 90-days.
2. Make sure the first “Fast Start” milestone is something you can accomplish within "
the next 24 hours.

Over the last seven years my team and I have have studied the science of achievement and habit
building to form an extremely effective method for having fun with your guitar while seeing massive
progress. Below is the TAC Method “3 Pillars of Practice” that our members follow to live their most
fulfilling guitar lives.
The TAC Method: HOW to Practice
STEP 1: PRIME YOUR TIME
1. Set your intention: “If you don’t set your intention, everything gets your attention.” Know
what you’re working on before you sit down with your guitar.
2. Same time, same place: “Your goal is to make playing an automatic habit like brushing
your teeth.” That habit starts with committing to a time and place.
STEP 2: PRACTICE WITH PURPOSE
1. Minimum time commitment: “Commit to ten minutes and make sure it’s slightly above your
comfort level. The secret to this method is exposure to new things not mastery of
everything you try. Trust the process and you will see results!
2. Divide your time: Begin with a short warm up exercise. Next, use most of your time for the
TAC 10 (rotate through the 5 categories of guitar improvement). If you have time left, work
on your next 90-day milestone.
STEP 3: REFLECT & EVALUATE
1. Celebrate small wins: After every practice and during the 90-day guitar goal workshops,
take time to feel gratitude for what you’ve accomplished.
2. Choose the next exciting goal: Every 90 days rate your happiness on the 8 Keys to Guitar
Enjoyment. This will give you perspective on where you’re at and where your biggest
potential for fun lies.
The TAC Method: WHAT to Practice
These are the five foundational guitar skills you should practice every week to become a well rounded
guitar player. After just a few weeks, you’ll experience increased speed, finger strength, accuracy,
and confidence. Your improvisation skills will improve and learning new songs will become easier.
Inside Tony’s Acoustic Challenge we call this daily ritual “The TAC 10”.
MONDAY: TECHNIQUE FOCUSED WARM UPS
Take ten minutes each Monday to learn a new warm up. Use this as your warm up exercise before your
practice sessions for the rest of the week. Warm up exercises get your blood flowing, get your hands
talking to each other, and they reinforce core techniques.
TUESDAY: LICKS THAT BUILD YOUR ARSENAL
Licks are addicting and fun. Once you learn a new lick you can add it to your arsenal and use it for fills,
intros, outros, idea seeds for writing songs or jamming. Fundamental skills are embedded in learning
licks. You’ll increase speed and accuracy and learn finger patterns that you can use in your improvisation.
WEDNESDAY: SOLOING & SCALES
Don’t put off soloing because you’re not ready. You can learn a simple five note scale pattern and then
use that as a template for improvising simply by changing up the rhythm. Soloing is the source of hours of
fun and enjoyment and it builds skills that you can use in other areas of your playing.
THURSDAY: RHYTHM GUITAR
Learning strumming patterns and improving your timing is foundational to improving at guitar and learning
songs quickly.
FRIDAY: CHORD TRANSITIONS & KEYS
When you practice transitioning between common groups of chords, you’ll improve your ability to play
along with songs on the radio or with other guitar players and you’ll learn songs much faster.
As a returning guitar player, your focus for this first 90 days is quick wins, confidence, and
habit building. This means first committing to the same place, the same time, and choosing your
target weekly practice sessions. If you haven’t been playing every day, we suggest you start small
with two or three days per week and slowly work up to five days per week until it feels automatic, like
brushing your teeth.
YOUR DAILY GUITAR ROUTINE
1. TAC 10: Follow the daily rotation of the five categories of practice for ten minutes.
2. Spend the remaining practice time working towards your next milestone.
3. Write down at least one small win. To accelerate your momentum, share your win with a
friend, family member, or in the TAC Guitar Family forums.

You’ve written down your goal and visualized what it will be like when you’ve completed your goal. But
this last step is the most important part. This process is known in the scientific community as “mental
contrasting” and it’s been shown to increase your success rate by up to 60%!
Design Your Back-Up Plan
PLAN FOR INEVITABLE OBSTACLES
1. Write down your progress killer: overwhelm, distraction, procrastination, or perfectionism.
2. Write down other obstacles that will likely pop up in the next 90 days.
3. Write a plan for your future self to read when you hit these obstacles. Example: “If [problem]
happens then I will [my plan].
