VETERAN LICENSE PLATE APPLICATION
NRS 482.3763, 482.37635, 482.3764
A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, their spouse, parent, or child may apply for a Veteran or
Female Veteran license plate. Standard issue Veteran license plates will be inscribed with the words
VETERAN across the bottom of the plate and the seal of the branch of the Armed Forces requested by the
applicant on the left side of the plate followed by four characters/alpha/numeric (three
characters/alpha/numeric for motorcycle and small trailer license plates). Woman Veteran plates include an
image representing women veterans in lieu of the seal of the Armed Forces branch.
Militar
y Unit Insignias
A Veteran may request an available insignia or emblem of a specific military unit within a particular branch of
the Armed Forces of the United States. The insignia or emblem will be located on the right side of the plate.
Documentation must be provided which shows reasonable proof of the identity of the applicant and proof of
their status or connection as a member of the specific military unit to be displayed on the decal such as
Airborne patch, jump school certificate, discharge papers, etc.
Note: Unit
insignias currently available: Army Airborne, Seabees, Air National Guard, and Army National
Guard. License plates are manufactured with the insignia rather than separate decals.
Registra
tion
If your vehicle is currently registered you have the option of maintaining your current registration expiration
date, or renewing for a full 12-month period at the time you receive your Veteran license plates. Credit for the
unused portion of your current registration will be applied to your renewal. You must appear in person and
surrender your current license plates to the Department in order to transfer this credit.
Smog Test
In appl
icable counties, if the previous evidence of compliance with emission standards was obtained more than
90 days ago, and you are updating the registration date, the vehicle must be re-inspected prior to registration.
Fees
The fi
rst time fee for Veterans license plates is $61.00* plus a Prison Industry fee of 50 cents per plate, which
includes a Technology fee. These fees are in addition to all other registration fees and governmental services
taxes. The annual renewal fee for a Veteran license plate is $30.00** in addition to all other registration fees
and governmental services taxes.
The cost
for Personalized Veteran license plates is $96.00 plus a Prison Industry fee of 50 cents per plate,
which includes a Technology fee. This is in addition to all other registration fees and governmental services
taxes. The annual renewal fee for Personalized Veteran license plates is $50.00. Personalized license plates
may be ordered by mail and picked up at your nearest branch. Nevada evidence of insurance must be
presented when you visit the DMV.
* $25.00 of
the initial fee is for the support of outreach programs for Veterans and their families.
** $20.00 of the renewal fee is for the support of outreach programs for Veterans and their families.
