The Rockford Fire Department responded to the above address for a fire in one apartment of a four unit
building. Upon arrival, Engine 8 crew began the rescue of two adult female victims who were trapped
inside the fire apartment. As other crews arrived, they assisted with the rescues. The two ladies, and a
two month old toddler, were taken out of a first floor window by firefighters on the scene. A search of
the remaining three apartments found an other adult female trapped on the second floor of this building.
She was able to walk and she was assisted out of the building by firefighters.
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. Damage is estimated at $15,000.
The two adult ladies that were brought out the first floor window were taken to Rockford Memorial
Hospital. Their conditions later deteriorated. One was listed as "serious," and the other was listed as
"critical." They are both stable and expected to survive. The infant was in good condition.
The fire was caused by unattended cooking.
