Current Freshmen - Class of 2024
School Year 2021-2022
Course Selection Information
Selection Time Period: January 7, 2021 to February 5, 2021
Dear Student,
How time flies! I would like to begin scheduling freshmen for sophomore year. Please complete the attached scheduling sheet
with your parents and then email to me by February 5, 2021
Helpful guidelines -
Consult your teacher and parents for advice. Look at your current level to determine next year’s academic level. If you are at
83 or higher, you may consider going to the next level. If you are interested in taking high school courses that can earn you
college credits please click on the College at Eastern handbook:

1. Everyone needs an English class; select the appropriate level.
2. Everyone needs Drivers Education and PE 2.
3. Most students will take US I to work toward their high school requirement of three history units (World, USI and US II).
4. Science – read the requirements for Chemistry and consult with your science and math teachers for planning and levels.
5. Math teachers have already discussed your options for next year. Again, use your numerical average plus the teacher’s
suggestion for your math program.
6. World Language – one year is required for high school. Colleges may require 2, 3, or 4 years of the same language.
Check the college’s website if you are thinking about specific schools.
7. Elective – think about choices that you would be interested in exploring, talk to friends and read your course guide.
Colleges like to see academic electives so do not load up on non-academic electives. When choosing an elective,
remember you must successfully complete graduation requirements in the following areas:
● Visual/Performing Arts (5 credits)
● 21
st
Century Life and Career or Career Technical (5 credits)
● Financial Economic Literacy (2.5 credits)
8. Provide 15 credits or more of alternate choices. I will insist at scheduling that you have this thought out ahead of time.
9. You must carry 30 credits as a minimum each school year during your high school career.
10. If you do not meet district prerequisites for a particular course, a completed course waiver form will be required. The
waiver period is from January 7, 2021 to April 30, 2021. You may obtain a waiver form from me.
11. You will receive a pass from me to review course selections when you have completed the following:
● Completed the course selection process in PowerSchool.
● Returned the course selection worksheet with parents’ signature to me.
12. Upon completion of receipt of your course selection worksheet, I will review with you your requests to ensure that you
have selected the appropriate courses for your sophomore year.
I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your future plans!
