About Alyeska Pipeline Service Company: Alyeska was established in 1970 to design,
construct, operate, and maintain the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).
Headquartered in Anchorage, the company maintains operations in Fairbanks, Valdez
and remote locations along the pipeline.
Currently TAPS is owned by four companies including, BP Pipelines (Alaska) Inc.,
ConocoPhillips Transportation Alaska, Inc., ExxonMobil Pipeline Company, and Unocal
Pipeline Company.
TAPS crosses over 376 miles of federal-owned land, 344 miles of state-owned land, and
80 miles of private property (800 miles in total). Fifty-one miles of the privately owned
land is owned by Alaska Native corporations. Prior to beginning pipeline construction in
1974, the TAPS owners signed a State Right-of Way Lease and a Federal Agreement
and Grant of Right-of- Way which contain terms applicable to pipeline construction,
operation, and maintenance. These agreements (currently valid until 2034) have
defined many of the state and federal requirements for TAPS operations since oil started
flowing in 1977.
Alyeska has a Women
and Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE) Program which is
enforced to ensure compliance with applicable requirements of CFR Title 43 Public
Lands: Interior, Part 27 Nondiscrimination in Activities Conducted Under Permits,
Right-of-Way, Public Land Orders, and Other Federal Authorization Granted or Issued
Under Title II of Public Law 93-153, et seq. by increasing opportunities for qualified
women and minority-owned companies to market their products or services to Alyeska
and Alyeska Contractors. Alyeska prohibits discrimination against any person or
business pursuing these opportunities on the grounds of race, creed, color, national
origin, or sex. Alyeska manages its contracting and purchasing programs to prevent and
resolve any claims of discrimination and is committed to expanding the WMBE
participation in its direct contracts and subcontracts when possible.
