2020/2021 SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS (SAP) APPEAL
SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS:
You are currently not meeting the minimum GPA and/or Pace
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
requirement. If you have experienced extenuating circumstances beyond your control that prevented you from satisfying the SAP requirements to
maintain, you may appeal the status. Documentation is required
.
Appeals submitted without all required forms will be denied.
Submittal of an
appeal does NOT GUARANTEE financial aid reinstatement.
I am appealing for the reinstatement of Financial Aid for the following semester:
*Note early submission and deadline dates for
each semester. Appeals received outside these dates may be denied.

Check the appropriate Extenuating Circumstance for which you are appealing:
Serious injury or illness of student or immediate family member.
Domestic Violence.
Attach medical and/or other documentation verifying the date and
duration of the occurrence.
Death of immediate family member (spouse, mother, father, guardian,
sister, brother, son or daughter).
Attach copy of death certificate or obituary.
Attach letter from the employer verifying the circumstances and dates of
loss of employment.
Extenuating circumstances that were beyond the student’s control.
Attach third party letter or documents to verify the dates and duration of
the extenuating circumstances.
CHECKLIST: YOUR APPEAL MUST INCLUDE THE DOCUMENTATION LISTED BELOW: Gather all required documents as
indicated above for why you are appealing, complete all tasks below (steps 1-6), complete and sign all three pages of
this appeal, then upload all documents in your MyBC Student Portal under Financial Aid > Required Documents by
using the Manage button; you can upload as many pages as necessary.
1.
Supporting Documentation-You must provide specific supporting documentation for verifying your extenuating
circumstance. Documentation must be uploaded with your appeal.
2.
Probation Contract- You must read, initial, and sign your SAP Probation Rights and Responsibilities; page 2 attached.
3.
SAP Appeal Statement- You must provide a detailed personal statement explaining your extenuating circumstances;
page 3 attached.
4.
Current Student Education Plan (SEP)- If you do not have a current SEP, make an appointment with a counselor to
complete one. Only courses listed on your current Student Education Plan will be approved for financial aid eligibility. A
copy of your SEP must be uploaded with your appeal. In addition, visit the Butte College Career and Academic Profile
(CAP) Tool to verify that your Academic Program is correct.
5.
Complete Satisfactory Academic Progress Tutorial and Quiz- You must complete “The Key Components to the
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Financial Aid Appeal Process” online tutorial and quiz with a 90% pass rate at
http://butte.get-counseling.com/flagsession/7819. A copy of your SAP Tutorial and Quiz results must be uploaded
with your appeal.
6.
Course Evaluation (CE) required- All classes must show a current course grade and must show passing. The Cour
se
Evaluation (CE) requirement has been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandem
ic and resulting
campus closure.

information I provide is incomplete or false, my financial aid could be delayed or denied. I authorize the Financial Aid Office to make any necessary
