The Barbara Cornwell Memorial Scholarship Application
The Barbara Cornwell Memorial Scholarship Fund will grant a
scholarship of $5,000 to a graduating senior from Unity Reed
High School in Manassas, VA seeking an education beyond high
school.
Eligibility for 2022 Scholarship:
• Graduating Unity Reed High School Senior
• Be enrolling in an accredited community college or a four-
year accredited college
• Demonstrate financial need
Requirements:
Completed applications must be received by Friday, April 1, 2022. Packages must be emailed
to: bcornwellscholarship@gmail.com. Applications must include:
• Completed application
• Current high school transcript (a scanned copy is acceptable)
• Two letters of reference from a non-related member of the community (at least one must be a
teacher). Teacher letters must be on official school stationary. Referents can email their letters
directly; include in the subject line the student’s name. Address the following in the
recommendation letter:
o How you know the applicant and length of time.
o Personal qualities of the applicant that makes him/her a good choice to receive the
scholarship.
o Tell us something about the applicant that we can’t find in his/her transcript that would
make the individual stand out.
o Describe the applicant’s academic potential.
Scholarship Award:
Our selection committee will rank the applicants based upon the applicant’s GPA, difficulty of classes
taken, activities outside of the classroom, demonstration of curiosity and love of learning, and
academic potential. A winner will be announced in May 2022. Funds will go directly to the learning
institution.
