The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords eligible students certain rights with respect to their
education records. FERPA’s regulations define “education records” as those records that are (1) directly related to a
student and (2) maintained by Furman University or by a party acting on behalf of Furman. In general, among other rights
and subject to exceptions, FERPA gives you the right to control the disclosure of your education records to others.
Disclosure to Your Parents or Spouse
Furman understands that your parents or spouse will likely play an important role in your education. Please sign
below to authorize Furman to release your education records to your parents or spouse for the duration of your
enrollment at Furman University, including but not limited to the following:
• Billing and financial aid details related to your attendance at Furman University;
• Individual course grades;
• Grade point average;
• Academic status;
• Student conduct disciplinary records; and
• Academic disciplinary records.
