Provost Award for Excellence in Research Mentorship Nomination Form Part III
Purpose: The Center for Research & Scholarship (CRS) recognizes up to five faculty, involved in teaching
undergraduate residential courses, who exemplify a commitment to best practices in teaching and
mentoring undergraduate research through the annual awarding of the Provost Award for Excellence in
Research Mentorship.
“Research” refers to inquiry that harnesses knowledge, skills, and values to produce new knowledge or
to make a new contribution to the discipline. It is recognized that approaches to research vary across
the humanities, the creative arts, and the sciences disciplines.
The nomination and application process for this award is to be completed in three parts:
Part III: To be completed by the Nominee upon request from CRS and submitted by email
to crs@liberty.edu by the published deadline available on the CRS website.
Nominee’s Submission:
Evidence of Commitment to Research:
(1) Please provide a statement below detailing how your CV reflects your current
involvement in or pursuit of opportunities in research and scholarship. You may include
additional information that could speak to your evidence of commitment to research
that is not mentioned in the CV.

Note: The following three sections should reflect the research mentorship of the nominee during his or
her tenure as a faculty member at Liberty University.
Ev
idence of Research Mentorship of Students:
(1) Please attach a list of students, enrolled in an undergraduate residential program, whom
you have mentored in research/creative works;
AND/OR
(2) Please provide the number and description of the research courses through which you
have mentored undergraduate residential students through research/creative works.
Evi
dence of Impact on Professional Development of Students:
Please provide the following information demonstrating the impact of your research/creative
works mentorship on the professional development of students:
(1) Number of students presenting their research/scholarship at conferences or
professional events as a result of the nominee’s mentorship.
(2) Number of students publishing their research as co-authors or primary authors as a
result of the nominee’s mentorship.
(3) Description of the research activities (i.e. weekly meetings, expectations for students,
mentorship goals, etc.) that you host that contribute to the development of the
student(s) in their knowledge, values, and skills in the areas of research and scholarship.

vidence of success of mentorship on student achievement:
(1) Awards received by Liberty University student mentees based on their participation in
research projects/creative works with you.
Follow-up Ex
pectation:
Faculty receiving this award may be asked to present their best practices (i.e. mentoring
student, designing research into a course, publication, etc.) at a CRS or CTE faculty workshop.
Additional Documentation Requested:
(1) Please provide a letter of support from two current undergraduate residential students who
have engaged in research under your mentorship. See guidelines for the content that
should be included in these letters of support. Student letters should be emailed directly
to crs@liberty.edu
and should include the name of the faculty nominee in the email’s
subject line.
(2) If you participated in an interdisciplinary research project that would involve research under
another School/College, please provide a letter of support from the Dean of that
School/College. See guidelines for the content that should be included in these letters of
support.
