Floreine E. Clark Memorial Scholarship - Floreine Clark was an elementary teacher and
taught briey at Arp and Henderson Schools in Cheyenne, WY. She was the second president
of Cheyenne’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. For years she parcipated acvely in Cheyenne’s
Airport Women’s Golf Associaon. Sll playing when she was 83, she was proud of her
trophies and of geng a hole-in-one. Floreine was an acve member of P.E.O. for 62 years.
John E. Von Kennel Memorial Scholarship - Shirley Garre-Robinson Memorial Scholarship
John Von Kennel was born and raised in Cheyenne. His early years were spent on a farm near
the Hereford Ranch. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and he owned and
operated the Furniture Barn unl he rered in 1985. He was an avid sherman, bird hunter,
and trap shooter. He is best remembered for his philanthropy and entrepreneurship.
Shirley Garre-Robinson was born and raised in Sheridan, WY and aended the University of
Wyoming. She focused her interests on her family and giving back to the community. Shirley dedicated
herself to helping organizations including YMCA, United Fund, DePaul Hospital, Laramie County Library,
Botanic Gardens, Women’s Civic League, and Chapter Z P.E.O. to name a few. She was active in her church,
loved to play golf and bridge, and painted water colors.
Helen K. Maier Memorial Scholarship - Helen was born in Thermopolis, WY and lived in
Laramie, Torrington, Sheridan, and Cheyenne. After graduating from nursing school from
Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, CO, Helen worked as a nurse. Helen lived
a life of service to her family, her community, and to the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She held many
offices and leadership roles in her community. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Children's
Home while living in Torrington. In love and honor of Helen, her family established this scholarship giving
preference to a single female parent. Helen married Joseph F. Maier and was blessed with four children.
Kay and Jerry Jessen Family Scholarship - This scholarship is in memory of Kay’s
grandmother, Kathleen Rochelle, and her parents, Jean (Rochelle) and Emme Osborne. Kay
was born in Casper and grew up in Riverton. She obtained dual degrees in speech pathology
and elementary educaon from the University of Wyoming. Kay is very acve in community
organizaons and was recently inducted into the Cheyenne Froner Days Hall of Fame for
her 35 years work with the CFD Western Art Show. Jerry was born in Iowa, grew up in the farming business in
Minnesota, and has a degree in engineering from Kansas State University. He served in the US Army’s 101st
Airborne. He worked for the BLM in Wyoming and rered as Deputy State Director. Jerry has also been very
acve with community and state organizaons.

P.E.O. Chapter Z MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS were established through the generosity of its members
and families of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and with the support of Laramie County Community College
Foundaon. It is the primary focus of Chapter Z to assist women in the pursuit of furthering their
educaon. The scholarships are awarded on an annual basis if qualied applicants are selected.

Semi-nalists for these scholarships will be selected for interviews. They will be noed by
telephone/email to determine an interview date and me.
Awards will be made aer interviews have been conducted and before July 1st.
The selecon of recipients is made by the Scholarship Commiee, P.E.O. Chapter Z. Selecon
is based on the informaon provided by the applicant and results of a personal interview.
The allocated amount of the scholarship will be awarded for the fall semester.
