MAP Illinois Residency Verification

The Monetary Award Program (MAP) provides grants, which do not need to be repaid, to Illinois residents who
attend approved Illinois colleges and demonstrate financial need, based on the information provided on the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students eligible for MAP will be required to verify Illinois residency.
An award will not be made until verification is submitted to the Prairie State College Financial Aid Office.
Dependent Students
A dependent student is a resident of Illinois if the parent of the dependent applicant, who is required by
the instructions to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), physically resides
within the State of Illinois and Illinois is his or her true, fixed and permanent home.
Independent Student
An independent student must have resided in Illinois for 12 continuous months prior to start of classes
of the academic year the student is applying for the MAP grant to be considered an Illinois resident. For
the 2013-2014 academic year, the student must have been an Illinois resident continuously from August
2013 to July 2014. Illinois must be their permanent home.

2013 Wage and tax statements (IRS Form W-2)
2013 Statement of benefits from the Illinois Department of Public Aid
State of Illinois identification card, issued before August 2013 by the Secretary of State
2013 Statement of benefits from the Illinois Department of Employment Security
2013 Statement of benefits from the Social Security Administration
Illinois voter’s registration card issued before August 2013
2013 Property tax bill
