MERIT NURSING ADMISSIONS CHECKLIST
MAY 2021 CLINICAL START DATE
The purpose of Merit Nursing Admissions is to allow students who qualify for the Nursing program to apply for
special consideration for priority admission with an earlier start date. Points are awarded on pre-set, published
criteria. Students are ranked based on their total number of points. The top students by point total are then
admitted based on the number of available slots.

Instructions for completing the Merit Nursing Admissions Checklist:
Applicants must do of the following in order to be considered for Merit Nursing:
1. You must be qualified for the MTC Nursing program before you can apply for Merit Admission. You can
apply for merit if you meet ONE of the four criteria below and have been notified that you are accepted to
the Associate Degree Nursing program. If you earned a D, F or WF in any Nursing class, you are not eligible
for Merit Admission.
_____ SAT 1000 (minimum verbal 500, minimum math 580) within 3 years; or
_____ ACT Composite 20 (minimum verbal 20, minimum math 24) within 3 years; or
_____ Completion of the Pre-Nursing Certificate with a cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.75 on
the 8 courses, no grade lower than a “C,” and no more than one repeat per course at Midlands
Technical College or any post-secondary institution. Any "Withdrawal" received during the Spring
2018 semester or after will be counted as an attempt; OR
_____ Have an Associate’s degree or higher with a 2.75 GPA or higher; while also transferring in, or placing
into, college-level English and Math.
2. Log onto your MyMTC account. In the Academic Profile box, click on “MTC Transcripts/Grades” and chose to
print your MTC Unofficial Transcript. Print this even if it says “No Report Produced.”
3. Log onto your MyMTC account. In the Academic Profile box, click on “Transfer Transcript Summary” and
print your transfer credits into MTC if applicable. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that official
transcripts of all coursework from all previous colleges and official test scores have been evaluated and
posted to the student’s account before applying for Merit Admissions. Failure to provide all reports of
course credits will result in disqualification. Students must allow four weeks for official documents to be
posted to account after they are received at MTC.
