HARFORD COUNTY SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR AUDIT ADVISORY BOARD
Harford County is seeking volunteers to serve on the Audit Advisory Board. The Advisory
Board serves as an objective body to assist the County Council in fulfilling its oversight of the
Office of the County Auditor. A core function of the Board is to validate the County Auditor’s
risk assessment, strategy, and audit plan and seek assurance that corrective action is taken
when necessary. This “third set of eyes” can assist with ensuring audit reports are
understandable to the County Council, County Executive, management officials and the
public. The Audit Advisory Board also ensures that internal audit recommendations are
taken seriously, and remediation is monitored to ensure effectiveness of local government
operations.
The Advisory Board consists of eight members, including four at-large Harford County
citizens. Citizen members serve a four-year term which is coterminous with the term of the
County Council. Members are appointed by the County Council and may serve two full terms.
The Board will meet at least 3 times per year, usually on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm. Regular
meeting attendance is important in maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of the
board. Audit Advisory Board members serve without compensation.
Interested individuals should have audit, accounting, finance or related management
experience. Any Harford County resident interested in applying should send the Harford
County Boards/ Commission Application (below) and a letter of interest to Chrystal Brooks,
County Auditor, 212 South Bond Street, Room 219, Bel Air, MD 21014 or
auditor@harfordcountymd.gov.
Political Affiliation and Race fields on the application are not relevant to this Board’s
membership and may be left blank. Letters of interest should contain reasons for interest in
being appointed, a professional resume or summary of qualifications, and disclosure of any
relationships to Harford County government or its elected or appointed officials, such as
family members employed by the county, or business contracts within the County.
Applications will be accepted until the current vacancy is filled and may be kept on file for
future vacancies.
For more information, contact Chrystal Brooks at (410) 638-3161 or
