FENCE VARIANCE APPLICATION SUPPLEMENT
An applicant for a Variance has the burden of proof. In other words, it is the burden of the applicant before the
Joint Land Use Board to gather, organize and submit proofs sufficient to establish entitlement to the Variance.
An application for a Variance regarding fence construction must include specific information regarding the
construction material, height, color and location of each section of the fence. An application for a Variance
regarding fence construction will not be considered complete, and therefore cannot be scheduled for a hearing
before the Joint Land Use Board, until the following information is provided.

LENGTH, LOCATION and DIRECTION
Please provide the starting point, direction, length and ending point of each Section. Please note that left and
right sides are defined as those sides to the left and right of an individual standing in the street and
looking toward the property,
Distance should be described as feet and inches. For example, a proper description would be “ 5 feet, six
inches”, not “5.5 feet” or “five and a half feet”.
For EXAMPLE:
Sections of fencing would be described as follows:
SECTION ONE starts at the left front corner of the existing home, at a point of 50 feet from the front and 15
feet from the left property lines. Section one runs a distance of 15 feet along a straight line 50 feet from and
parallel to the front property line. Section One ends at the left property line 50 feet from the front property line.
SECTION TWO runs along the left property line a distance of 250 feet to the rear property line
SECTION THREE runs along the rear property line a distance of 100 feet to the right property line.
SECTION FOUR runs along the right property line a distance of 250 feet to a point 50 feet from the front
property line.
SECTION FIVE runs from this point a distance of 15 feet along a straight line 50 feet from and parallel to the
front property line and ends at the right front corner of the existing home.
EXISTING FENCES if there are other fences on your property, please state whether you propose to remove
