FARMER / RANCHER AFFIDAVIT
Registration fees for a farm vehicle having an unladen weight of 10,000 pounds or more may be based on the
unladen weight of the vehicle rather than the declared gross weight.
Pur
suant to NRS 482.036 “Farm vehicle” means any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is:
1. Cont
rolled and operated by a farmer or rancher;
2. Used to transport his own livestock, agricultural products, ranch or farm machinery or supplies
to or from a ranch or farm; and
3. Not
used in the operation of a common or contract carrier.
For t
he purpose of NRS 482.036 and 706.071 and pursuant to NAC 482.430, “Farmer” or “Rancher” means a
person who derived at least two-thirds of his gross income for the previous tax year from cultivating the soil or
raising agricultural commodities, including such activities as:
1. The
operation of stock, poultry, bee, fruit, or truck farm;
2. The operation of dairy, plantation, ranch, nursery, or orchard;
3. The
collection of a portion of share crops;
4. The
sale of draft, dairy, range, or sporting livestock; or
5. The
sale of livestock for breeding.
For t
he purpose of this section, “gross income” does not include wages received as a farm or ranch employee
or passive income from a farm or ranch corporation.
A per
son who applies to the DMV for the registration of a farm vehicle will submit upon the appropriate form
furnished by the DMV an affidavit stating:
1. He is a farmer or rancher as defined in NAC 482.430;
2. Hi
s vehicle is a farm vehicle as defined in NRS 482.036.
Such an applicant shall also submit any additional proof deemed necessary by the DMV to establish he is a
farmer or rancher.
If the registration of a farm vehicle is based upon a false or fraudulent affidavit or application for registration,
the DMV will, upon discovery of the fact, suspend the registration of the vehicle and require the license plates
issued to the vehicle be returned to the DMV.

Changes may not be made to this form once it is signed and witnessed.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Complete a separate affidavit for each power unit or attach a list of all vehicles.
2. Have unladen vehicle or combination of vehicles weighed using a scale certified by the State Sealer of Weights and Measures
pursuant to NRS 706.141.
Note: DMV offices with scales are Certified Public Weigh Stations.
3. Farmer / Rancher Affidavit and weight certificate and / or weight receipt submissions:
3.a. Submit the completed affidavit, weight certificate or weight receipt and documents for registration in person to the
nearest DMV or where applicable, county assessor’s office, or by mail to the address below.
3.b. If the unladen weight exceeds 26,000 pounds, submit the completed affidavit, weight certificate or weight receipt and
documents for registration to the nearest DMV with a Motor Carrier Division. To find locations with a Motor Carrier

4. Nevada based carriers operating 100% in Nevada are not required to file quarterly special fuel tax returns. Interstate carriers,
with vehicles with a gross or combined gross weight in excess of 26,000 pounds, are required to file quarterly special fuel use
tax returns through the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). IFTA carriers are required to obtain a special fuel users
license.
Note: Effective January 1, 2010, a special fuel user’s license will no longer be required for 100% Nevada only
registered vehicles due to the passage of SB332
5. If the gross or combined weight exceeds 55,000 pounds an IRS Form 2290 Heavy Vehicle Use Tax must be filed.
6. An affidavit and weight certificate or weight receipt must be submitted:
Upon original registration
When the vehicle is altered or modified
When the vehicle combination has been changed
Note: Neither the affidavit nor the weight certificate is required upon a renewal.
