Clock to Credit Hour Regulation
**For Students Enrolled in Technical Programs ONLY**
We
are sharing information with you about the Clock to Credit Hour Regulation that may affect your financial aid. This is a federal
regulation regarding reduction of payable financial aid credit hours if you are admitted to one of the following programs of study.
These programs do not lead to an Associate Degree; therefore, according to federal regulations, institutions must complete a clock to
credit hour conversion when awarding Federal Financial Aid (Federal Financial Aid includes Pell Grants, Federal Direct Student Loans
and Federal Work-Study).
Automotive Technology
Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
Barber Styling
Carpentry
CNC Operator
Diesel Powered Equipment
Electrician
Industrial Maintenance Technology
Patient Care Technician
Practical Nursing
Welding
According to the Department of Education’s Clock Hour to Credit Hour Regulations that have been in effect since July 1, 2011,
programs that do not lead to an Associate’s Degree must use the clock to credit hour conversion formula. For these programs,
Institutions must determine the actual number of “payable financial aid credit hours. This determination is made by dividing the
total number of clock hours in a course by 37.5. The result is the new total credit hours for the course in which financial aid will be
paid. We must use this total when calculating awards and determining the 150% attempted hours.
Example: If you are enrolled in a 3 credit hour course that has 75 clock hours, we would divide 37.5 into the 75 clock hours
(75/37.5=2.0). You would end up being eligible for only 2 financial aid credit hours
The Office of Financial Aid has created a table for instructors to use when scheduling courses and Financial Aid Advisors to use when
determining Pell grant awards. This table contains specific course names with their actual number of “payable financial aid credit
hours” for those courses. These payable financial aid credit hours determine how much the Pell grant award will be, based on
Department of Education’s Clock Hour to Credit Hour Regulations. The reduced hours may result in reduced federal Pell grant and/or
federal student loan awards.
We hope this information is helpful to you as you begin and continue your enrollment at LDCC. You may contact the Office of Financial
Aid at your local campus if you have additional questions Bastrop 318. 974.7030; Ruston/Jonesboro 318.497.6323; Tallulah/Lake
