Ideas for Using the Games
Word Mazes:
p. 5 – Use for sight words. Type the featured sight word in the
editable field at the top of the page. Make a clear path from start to
finish by typing the sight word inside the circles. In the remaining
circles, type incorrect spellings of the sight word. For example, if your
learner is working on
they
, incorrect spellings could be
thy
,
the
,
them
,
htey
,
thay
, etc. Your learners should follow the correct spelling of
they
through the maze from start to finish.
p. 6 – Use for phonics words. Type a featured phonics word in the
editable field at the top of the page. Make a path from start to finish
by typing words that have the same vowel sound and/or vowel pattern.
In the other circles, type other phonics words or sight words that don’t
have that vowel sound.
Example 1: If you type
hat
as your featured phonics word, other
words that have the same vowel PATTERN could be
bag
,
lap
, or
mat
.
Words that do NOT have the same sound could be
dog
,
hit
, or
hot
.
Example 2: If you type
eat
as your featured phonics word, other
words that have the same vowel SOUND (long
e
) could be
bead
,
key
,
or
Pe te
. With this example, you’re going for the same sound, not
necessarily the same visual pattern.
