The purpose of this letter is to verify that as the parent of the above named student, I have elected to Home
School my child.
I understand that the Texas Supreme Court has ruled that a child who is home schooled is exempt from
compulsory attendance in public schools.
I understand that I am responsible for assuring that a curriculum consisting of books, workbooks, or other
written materials designed to meet the basic educational goals of reading, spelling, grammar, math, and a course in
good citizenship shall be pursued in a bona fide manner.
While the district does not offer specific direction on home schooling guidelines, we provide the following Texas

I understand that the Northside Independent School District is ready, willing and able to provide a free,
appropriate public education to your child, which will be available should you choose to enroll. The placement of
students who return to the Northside Independent School District from home school shall be consistent with placement
of students from any unaccredited private school. The use of valid and reasonable assessment instruments and
procedures for placement is permissible.
