Storyrhymes Leader
Your role will be to plan and deliver Storyrhyme sessions at libraries in the Southend borough.
To talk to families about the benefits of such language based activities and of early book-sharing.
To record information associated with the scheme and maintain confidentiality of this information.
To provide feedback to permanent staff serving the scheme.
As a volunteer you will meet new people, act as a role model to families, help to build stronger support
networks for families and become a vital link in the early years community.
You will be required to attend training and feedback meetings.
Storyrhymes Helper
Your role will be to assist the Storyrhyme Leader in their sessions at libraries in the Southend
borough.
To take responsibility for signing families in to the session and maintain confidentiality of any
information recorded.
To encourage new attendees to complete Family Contact Detail forms and maintain confidentiality
of these details.
To welcome and settle late arrivals to the session with minimal disruption.
To assist with the general running of the session e.g. distributing instruments and stickers etc.
To talk to families about the benefits of such language-based activities and of early book-sharing.
To provide feedback to permanent staff serving the scheme.
As a volunteer you will meet new people and build confidence in working with young children and their
families. You will be required to attend training and feedback meetings.
Required Aptitudes and Abilities
Aptitude for storytelling (leader role) and similar activities.
Good communication skills, especially listening and talking.
Friendly personality with a positive interest in working with children and parents/carers.
Reliable, particularly in terms of time-keeping.
