participate.

Students selected to participate in MDC School of Science STEM Research Program agree to:
1. Work with their mentor to agree upon a weekly schedule and the student is required to devote their
full efforts to their projects during the time they are in the lab.
2. Adhere to that schedule. A bi-weekly time-sheet and summary of activities will be verified and signed by
their faculty mentor and submitted to the School of Science staff.
3. May receive a stipend, dependent on completion of all deliverables, paid in two installments, with final
disbursement on September 26, 2020, at the STEM Research Symposium. Final abstracts are due no
later than August 10, 2020 and scientific posters are due no later than August 24, 2020. All stipends
will be processed based on approval and certification by the faculty mentor and grant staff.
4. Complete a minimum of 240 research hours, during the summer semester.
5. Maintain a detailed professional journal (scientific notebook) appropriate to the research activity being
conducted. Students will record their efforts, activity, and/or progress daily/weekly (depending upon
schedule/activity). This may be reviewed by the mentor and/or grant staff at any time.
6. Participate in professional development workshops covering topics that may include: research ethics,
experimental design and data analysis, conducting effective online research, and abstract and scientific
poster writing. Professional development hours will count towards the 220 required hours of research.
