Implementation Checklist
Use this checklist to guide you in the early stages of your implementation as you prepare for purposeful reading
practice with Accelerated Reader. We suggest you refer to the checklist regularly to guide discussions with your
colleagues or your Renaissance consultant.
1. Get Ready for Reading Practice and Introduce AR to Students
Schedule time for reading practice during the instructional day.
View tutorial, Schedule Daily Reading Practice.
Work with your principal and your team to find time within the school day.
Plan how students will take book quizzes and access articles based on your access to
devices.
The class has 1:1 computer access.
There are a few computers in the classroom.
The class has scheduled access to a computer lab or to a shared cart of computers.
Computers are available in the library/media center.
Get acquainted with Accelerated Reader.
Use the Getting Started with Reading Practice Cycle to familiarize yourself with the steps associated in
the AR Reading Practice Loop.
Review the features and functionality of Accelerated Reader through the Help menu topic.

Explain to your students why you will be giving them time to practice reading.

Describe your expectations of what students will do during reading practice time.
Model your routines for accessing books, articles and taking quizzes.

take quizzes, and view results.

2. Determine Reading Levels and Personalize Practice with Goals
Explain Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to students and use the suggested ranges to
help students select books.
