BILLBOARD
(1) Billboards are permitted only in C-3 districts. In addition to the requirements of this article, billboards must comply with the
Georgia Outdoor Advertising Act and all state Department of Transportation requirements.
(2) Billboards are prohibited along all state routes with the exception of I-95 and that section of U.S. Highway 17, comprising a
strip, extending 200 feet from the center of and along each side of the right-of-way and commencing at its intersection with
Interchange Drive and extending along U.S. Highway 17 Southward to its intersection with Ponderosa Road and that section
of Georgia Route 144, comprising a strip, extending 160 feet in width from the centerline of the right-of-way along the
southerly side of the right-of-way, commencing at its intersection with Thunderbird Drive and extending along Georgia Route
144 Westward to its intersection with Longwood Drive and a like strip, extending 100 feet in width from the centerline of the
right-of-way along the northerly side of the right-of-way, commencing at its intersection with Thunderbird Drive and extending
along Georgia Route 144 Westward to its intersection with Longwood Drive. In both the U.S. Highway 17 and Georgia Route
144 corridors, set out above, no billboard shall be permitted within 250 feet of the centerline of the right-of-way of I-95.
(3) All billboards shall be a minimum of ten feet above adjacent interstate or state route pavement, measuring form the lower
portion of the sign face.
(4) In the U.S. Highway 17 and Georgia Route 144 corridors only, no single billboard shall exceed 378 sq. ft. in size, nor shall
any billboard exceed 60 ft. in height. Extensions beyond the face of the sign, excluding aprons, are prohibited.
(5) Only one sign shall be allowed to face the same direction. This allows back-to-back or V-type formation signs, but two
signs (side-by-side or stacked) facing the same direction are prohibited.
(6) The billboard locations on the same side of the roadway shall be no less than 750 ft. apart measuring from the two closest
points.
(7) Billboard structures shall not be less than ten feet from any property line or right-of-way.
(8) Along I-95, billboards shall be placed only as follows: Beginning at the end of the outside edge of each on or off ramp to i-
95, then measuring along the traveled lane for 500 feet, no billboards shall be erected. From the 500 foot measurement and
over the next 2,000 feet, a total of three billboards may be erected provided no billboard stands within 500 feet of another
billboard on that side of the road. No billboards may be erected along I-95 in the city that do not fall within the designated
2,000 foot zone as just described.
(9) No billboard shall be placed within 750 feet of or so as to obstruct the view of an area of designated historical interest.
Sites of interest shall be listed in either the National Register of Historic Places, a state historic registry, or designated by
Council.
(10) All illuminated billboards shall use base mounted fluorescent or mercury vapors lights and shall be activated by
photoelectric cells. Additional lighting including, but not limited to, neon, LED, animation, and running lights is prohibited for
billboards.
HIGH RISE
High Rise Signs are permitted only in C-3 districts and only in the U.S. Highway 17 and Georgia Route 144 corridors
described above. All high rise signs must be directed toward interstate highway traffic only. Additionally, no high rise sign
shall exceed 200 sq. ft. in sign area. Maximum Height is 200 feet. Minimum Height is 50 feet.
