Revised 12/15
Texas Woman’s University
Department of English, Speech, and Foreign Languages
Statement of Intent
Comprehensive Examination for the PhD in Rhetoric
Comprehensive exams are given only in the months noted below in the three content areas listed. July exams
are available only when all committee members are available and willing to participate.
This form should be signed by each committee member and the committee chair prior to submission to the
Chair of ESFL. Forms are due before 5 pm on the first day of the semester in which the student intends to take
the exam (first day of fall semester, first day of spring semester, first day of summer I). Failure to submit the
form by the due date may result in the student having to postpone exams until the following semester.
Please note that all committee memberships must adhere to Graduate School policies. The committee chair
must be a full member of the graduate faculty. If a student has selected a minor, the committee must include a
member from that area.
Students are expected to meet with committee members well in advance of the examinations in order to prepare
properly. The responsibility for arranging meetings with committee members rests with the student.
