COURSE CHALLENGE REQUEST FORM
In accordance with existing policies and procedures concerning evaluation of certain nontraditional learning experiences, Columbia Basin
College may grant students an opportunity to challenge a course(s) that is regularly offered at CBC. If you have established a transcript
record at CBC, and believe that your previous experience has provided you with the competencies essential for passing a course, you
may request a Course Challenge. If you are enrolled in a course for which you wish to challenge, the Course Challenge process must be
completed within the first week of the course. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw/drop the course on or before the 100% refund
deadline.
POLICY
Before a student can be granted credit for Course Challenge and before the credit can become part of a student’s permanent
record, the student must satisfy all of the following condition:
- Have earned 15 or more credits at CBC with a GPA of 2.0 or better,
- Enrolled at CBC during the quarter the credit is awarded, and
- Have earned an eligibility to take the Course Challenge examination from the requested course instructor.
Course Challenge is granted only for classes that are regularly offered at CBC and approved by individual departments as course
challenge-eligible courses. Please check with the program advisor for the current eligible courses before submission as the courses
are subject to change.
Course Challenge credit may only be completed during the term in which the course is being offered.
No credit will be awarded if the student has earned credit in a similar course.
A course may be challenged only once.
Each request must be directed to the appropriate instructor who teaches the course.
Students must pass the Course Challenge examination at a 2.0 minimum grade. Credit(s) will be recorded with a decimal grade and
specifically identified on the transcript as credits for a Course Challenge with the grade.
Up to one-fourth of the total credits required for a CBC associate degree or certificate or One-fourth of the minimum upper level
(300-400) course credits required for a CBC applied baccalaureate degree (Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science in
Nursing) may be earned through the prior learning assessment.
Course Challenge credits do not count toward the minimum CBC residency requirement.
