The Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals has the authority to hear and decide appeals of orders and
decisions of the Chief Building Official relative to the application and interpretations of the code. However,
the Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals does not have the authority to waive the prescriptive
requirements of the adopted codes and standards.
The Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals is intended as a technical body, with the authority to hear and
decide on petitions made to the board that appeal the decisions of the Chief Building Official. Until the Chief
Building Official has rendered his or her determination, the issue is not subject to board review or action.

This petition for a Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeal hearing may not be submitted prior to the
Chief Building Official rendered his or her determination on the issue. Please include a copy of
the Chief Building Official’s determination with this application.
Provide all necessary documentation to support your appeal.

supporting documentation to buildingpermits@maconbibb.us
. Building Division staff will forward
this petition to the Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals Secretary.
Process:
1. Chief Building Official renders an opinion
2. Applicant petitions Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals for redress
3. Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals Secretary reviews application and sets date and time of the
hearing
4. Both the Chief Building Official and the petitioner address the Macon-Bibb County Board of
Appeals and present their argument
5. The Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals deliberates and votes of the appeal
6. Once the Macon-Bibb County Board of Appeals votes and renders an opinion it is binding to both
parties
