STUDENTS MUST DECLARE THEIR MAJOR WITH ACADEMIC ADVISING BEFORE FILLING IN
THIS FORM. BCMB 499A/B allows directed research under the supervision of a BCMB faculty member.
It is the responsibility of the student to have a faculty member agree to act as their supervisor. The
research is conducted over 2 academic terms with 499A taken before 499B. Students should complete
their experiments approximately half way through 499B so that a thesis may be written, and later
defended during the regular examination period that term. Co-op students may interrupt their honours
project with the permission of their supervisor for one work term, but must complete BCMB 499A/B
within 12 months. Students with a borderline GPA or lacking prerequisites are advised to seek approval
from the honours coordinator before searching for a supervisor. The grade is assigned primarily on how
well students carry out, understand and present their project, not on the significance of any experimental
results.
