Please list each product that you would like to have certified. In addition to the Product Summary, please submit the following
information:
Label Claim
The National Organic Program has specific rules regarding label claims on organic processed products. For each product listed
on the Product Summary, please indicate the label claim per the following definition:
• Products labeled as “100% Organic” must contain 100% organic ingredients, including processing aids.
• Products labeled “Organic” must contain at least 95% organic ingredients; nonorganic agricultural ingredients must not be
commercially available in an organic form and be listed on Section 205.606 of the National List; and all synthetic ingredients
and processing aids must be on the National List.
• Products labeled “Made with Organic” (specified ingredients or food groups) must contain at least 70% organic ingredients.
Product Information
For each product listed on the Product Summary, please note and submit the following:
• Private Labels – Private label products are typically those manufactured or provided by one company for offer under
another company’s brand. For each product listed, indicate whether the product is a private label.
• Label and Formulation – For each product listed, you must submit a Product Formulation Form. These forms must be
submitted for single ingredient products as well as formulated products and include all processing aids as well as
ingredients. In addition, a label must also be submitted for each product. Please note both wholesale and retail labels
must be submitted and no more than 8 ½” x 11” in size.
• Organic Form – For each product listed, please indicate if it is produced in both organic and nonorganic form. These
products are considered “parallel” products and have additional control points in regards to contamination and
commingling.
Ingredient Information
Verifying that ingredients comply with the National Organic Standards is an on-going process for both companies and organic
certifiers. For each ingredient listed on your product formulation, please supply the following information:
• Organic Certificates – All agricultural ingredients must be certified organic and you must be able to demonstrate that each
load of agricultural ingredients complies with the National Organic Standards. For each product listed, indicate whether
you maintain current organic certificates for all agriculture ingredients in the product.
• Non-Organic Ingredients or Processing Aids – There are two types of non-organic ingredients and/or processing aids, with
specific verification requirements.
o Non-Organic Agricultural – Non-organic agricultural ingredients are allowed as minor ingredients if they are not
commercially available in an organic form and are listed on §205.606 of the National Organic Program Standards.
In addition, you must submit verification that the non-organic ingredient was not produced with genetically
modified organisms, sewage sludge, or irradiation.
o Non-Agricultural – Non-agricultural ingredients and processing aids are allowed for use in processed products, if
listed in §205.605 of the NOP Standards. In addition to verifying that these substances have not been produced
with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), sewage sludge, or irradiation, many of these ingredients have
annotations within the NOP Standards that must also be verified. In order to update our records, please submit
verification of compliance with any annotations noted in §205.605 of the NOP Standards.
Records regarding the compliance of non-organic minor ingredients or processing aids MUST be maintained by your
company and MUST be available at each inspection.
