Scholarship Application Questions:
Please answer the following four questions in one or two thoughtful paragraphs for
each (up to 250 words per answer).
1. What do you want to accomplish with the help of this scholarship, should you be
selected? Please be specific, demonstrating the ways in which winning this
scholarship could help you, especially (but not only) academically.
2. Why should you be chosen for a Women’s and Gender Studies Scholarship? Be sure
that your response demonstrates your particular involvement in Women’s and
Gender Studies. Consider the following questions to help you formulate your
answer. You do not need to answer all of them. How have you demonstrated your
interest in and commitment to women’s and gender studies? How have you
demonstrated your interest in issues that concern gender and/or affect women’s
lives? What activities or events have you participated in that demonstrate your
involvement in Women’s and Gender Studies?
3. Please describe a successful project or paper that you completed for a Women’s and
Gender Studies course. What was the research or study involved in the assignment,
and what did you learn by completing the work? How do you think your scholarly
project contributes to our understanding of Women’s and Gender Studies?
4. We take financial need into consideration when awarding scholarships. Please
explain how this scholarship would have an impact on your financial circumstances.
Be as specific as possible in detailing your situation. Your answer may include but
not be limited to your income, general expenses, scholarships and grants, student
loans, whether you live alone or with parents or others, if you have children, and
any financial obligations.
Note: Although financial need is an important consideration, financial status alone
does not determine eligibility or award.
